How to apply foundation when you’re over 40 can be tricky.  I haven’t found a miracle foundation, but I have found a miracle method that works for me.  I call it multi-basing.

You’ve probably heard of multi-masking, the act of applying different masks to your face at the same time to address different skincare needs.

For example, in the picture I’m wearing one mask to deal with the oily pores in my T-Zone, and a different mask to hydrate under my eyes.  I’ve used three or four masks at the same time!

Similarly, one foundation does not always address the different needs of my combination skin.  So, I use multiple  foundations to create my best complexion.  Hence the name, multi-basing.

I tailor my foundation to the specific needs of my skin!

Multi-Basing is using different foundations on different parts of you face to create your most beautiful complexion.

Here’s a short video of how I do it…

On my T-Zone, I wear a matte foundation that controls shine and fills in my insanely large pores.  My current favorites include (Product Names Are Linked To Amazon) Maybelline Superstay, Too Faced Born This Way, and Wet ‘N Wild Matte Photofocus Foundation.

Matte formulas are great for the oily parts of my face, but they make the dry areas of my face look drier.  That makes my wrinkles look WORSE!  So under my eyes, and on the tops of my cheekbones, and above my upper lip I use a moisturizing BB or CC Cream or a  tinted moisturizer.

For dry areas, I use something with lots of moisture to plump wrinkles!

Right now my favorites are Chanel CC Cream and Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer.

Now, if you really want to get crazy, like I do, get yourself a spray foundation.  I didn’t do this in the video, but when I really want to set a look, I top it with some spray foundation.

As a final step in makeup application, I like to use a little spray foundation to help blend everything together.  Even my cream blush.

Spray a couple puffs on a fluffy brush, and blend, blend, blend.  It makes your blush look incredibly natural, and it just gives a great blended finish to the whole look.

I know some people will say this is too much work, or too much money.  I do understand both of those points of view.  However, I don’t agree.  The foundations I buy last a looooong time because I’m using just a little of each.  And dotting different bases on my face and blending really isn’t that hard.  And it gives the BEST results!

I mean, why wouldn’t I want the best results I can get?
