They should’ve called it The Extraordinary.

The Ordinary Skincare
The Ordinary skincare line has all my attention right now.  I’m excited about it!  And I’m interested in every single product.  The Ordinary offers products containing all the most effective, innovative skincare ingredients —ALL the ingredients I look for.

I can build a skincare routine tailored to my skin’s needs without spending a fortune.

The variety of products included in The Ordinary skincare line allows me to create a skincare routine just for ME.  And I was surprised, shocked actually, at how affordable the products are.

THIS. IS.  AFFORDABLE. QUALITY. SKINCARE.

The Ordinary Skincare
Of course I wanted to buy and try everything, but instead I identified the skin issues I wanted to target in my everyday skincare routine and then I looked for ingredients to address those issues.
I created a simple, everyday routine that I can build on.  It begins with this perfect cleanser.

Squalane Cleanser (morning & evening)

Squalane oil is a hydrogenated version of squalene, a compound produced naturally by our sebaceous (oil) glands.  I had been looking for a way to incorporate this miracle ingredient, squalane, into my skincare routine.  And here it is…

The Ordinary Skincare
This is everything I need in an everyday, makeup-busting cleanser.
  • gentle
  • hydrating
  • comforting to my skin
  • removes stubborn makeup thoroughly and with ease.  No scrubbing!

No bubbles, this is more of a cleansing balm that rinses off easily to a clean feel.   My skin feels clean and moisturized.

Lactic Acid 5% + HA (evening)

I’ve used lactic acid on my body for years and I’ve always loved the results.  So I’ve been looking for the same results on my face.  And I’ve found it!

Lactic acids stimulate the exfoliation of dull, rough surface skin cells.

Lactic Acid 5% + HA (pictured left)

This increases cell turnover rate.  With dead, dull cells exfoliated away, newer skin cells can shine through!  Skin appears plumper and more youthful looking.   I especially love this for targeting the enlarges pore of my T-Zone!

Lactic acid helps prevent congestion in my pores.

The Ordinary skincare formula contains Tasmanian Pepperberry derivative to help reduce irritation associated with acid use.  I’ve never had irritation, so who knows, I might move up to the 10% formula soon!  They make one!
I use this only at night, and sometimes every other night, on clean skin before I use moisturizer.

Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3% (always morning, sometimes evening)

After cleansing in the morning, I apply the antioxidant dynamic duo of Resveratrol and Ferulic Acid before applying moisturizer.  This protects my skin from the aging effects of free radicals, which are unpaired, unstable molecules that damage cells as they search to “pair up.”

Antioxidants help limit the damage free radicals can do to age your skin.

This feels slightly oily at first, but absorbs quickly.  It helps to improve the look of fine lines and discolorations.  If you use a Vitamin C product, this will actually increase the effectiveness of the vitamin when used together!  I’m experimenting with that right now.

Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA (morning & evening)

That’s a big name for a very simple, and very effective, moisturizer.   This is no-nonsense moisture, and I love it.  No scent, no color, no SPF.   Also, no dry skin!

The Ordinary Skincare
The natural moisturizing factors are made up of multiple amino acids, fatty acids, triglycerides, urea, ceramides, phospholipids, glycerin, saccharides, sodium PCA, hyaluronic acid and many other compounds that are naturally present in the skin.
Here’s what I love about it…
  • Lightweight
  • Absorbs quickly
  • Lasting hydration
  • Wears well under makeup
If you’re not already convinced that this is an amazing skincare line that you need to try, then listen to this.  The Ordinary’s products are free of parabens, sulphates, mineral oil, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, animal oils, coal tar dyes, formaldehyde, mercury, oxybenzone.
They do not test on animals nor pay others to do so.
I highly encourage you to check out TheOrdinary.com where you can find every detail on their products, how to patch test them to make sure you’re not allergic, and how to combine them for your best results.  It’s REALLY interesting stuff.  It somehow makes me feel like I have more control over my skincare.  Like I’m a scientist tinkering with potions, looking for the best results.
You can bet I’ll be adding to my skincare routine.  I already have my eye on some retinol, so I’ll keep you posted!
